Description

The Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 RS is widely regarded as one of the most significant road cars in Porsche's history. Developed as a homologation special for Group 4 competition, it became the first production Porsche to wear the Rennsport designation, introducing a philosophy of lightweight engineering, aerodynamic innovation and mechanical purity that continues to define the brand's most focused driver's cars. More than fifty years later, the 2.7 RS remains the benchmark against which every subsequent Rennsport model is measured, laying the foundations for legendary successors such as the 964 RS, 997 GT3 RS 4.0 and today's 992 GT3 RS. Its significance extends far beyond its performance figures. It established a direct link between Porsche's motorsport programme and its road cars, creating a formula that continues to shape the brand's most celebrated models today.

This example is an early 2.7 RS Touring, produced in December 1972 and specified from factory in Bahia Red over a black interior. As one of the first 200 cars produced, it represents an especially desirable early example of the model. The M472 Touring package gives the car a more usable and refined character while retaining the essential performance and purity that made the RS so significant.

Delivered new in Germany, this car has a well-documented history since the 1990s and presents today in very good restored condition. It is accompanied by a detailed photo report of the restoration work, giving strong insight into the quality and extent of the work carried out.

Further adding to its appeal, this RS won Class H at the 2014 Tour Auto, one of Europe’s most prestigious historic motoring events. The car comes complete with FIA and FFSA reports, booklets, a folder with invoices and the 2014 Tour Auto trophy.

Perhaps most importantly, this is a Carrera RS that has never lost sight of its original purpose. Built to be driven, enjoyed and exercised on the road, exactly as Porsche intended.
