This gorgeous Porsche 356A T6 Super Cabriolet was sold new by Porsche Zentrum, Salzburg and first registered 1961 to Gendarmerie-Zentralkommando in Vienna, Herrengasse 7, as written in the original Fahrzeugs brief. The original engine P89 222 was taken out 14/6-1962 by Porsche in Salzburg and was replaced with another type 616/2 engine (same as original) with the number POS 8144.
It was assigned to the Gendarmerie department in Eisenstadt where it remained until 1971 when it was put up for sale. It was bought by its first private owner in 1972. The car had two owners in the Vienna area before being exported to the U.KK in 1975, where, in 2011, the current owner bought it now ripe for restoration. The car was then exported to Milano, Italy.
The car was taken apart and a total restoration started. Under the red paint traces of the original colour were found, it was not ivory but white (Glasurit Polizei L 280). A two years restoration followed the re-construction of the Vienna Police car was finished in late 2013. The original Police radio has not been sourced and a similar military radio was fitted at this time.
It is known that the Dutch Police Force had about 5 cars and the Austrian 2, maybe 3 so the opportunity of meeting another one is practically zero. This, in combination with the practicality and reliability that a 356 Super cabriolet provides, makes it a really perfect summer car and the perfect entry to many rallies and events.
