Can you guess who owned this regal BMW Z8?

Owned by Prince Albert of Monaco and finished in the ultra-rare shade of Stratus Metallic, this BMW Z8 heading to Aguttes’ Summer Sale might be the finest example we’ve ever seen.

These days it seems even toddlers are aware that the turn of the millennium represented the high water mark for driver’s cars, and BMW’s creations from that time period have been steadily climbing in value for a fair few years at this point. One model that mostly managed to avoid a heavy thwack with the depreciation stick, however, was the incredible BMW Z8, and it seems if you want to bag yourself a decent example before the prices disappear into the stratosphere, you’ll need to act quickly. As luck would have it, Aguttes’ upcoming Summer Sale on June 29th in Paris has one of the most exquisite examples of this new millennium roadster that we’ve ever seen.

Penned by Henrik Fisker as an homage to the BMW 507, this 2001 Z8’s bodywork certainly isn’t lacking in head turning appeal finished in Stratus Metallic, an exceedingly rare shade optioned on only 196 examples of the mere 5,703 Z8s ever built. Paired with an elegant light beige interior, it’s a combination that would look just at home prowling the business district as it would on the shores of the Mediterranean. Free from unnecessary fake vents or aggressive creases in its exterior, the Z8 has aged exceptionally well, while quirks like the instrument cluster being mounted centrally on the dash or the Z8’s neon tube taillights add to its unique allure.

However, beyond the substantial curb appeal, the Z8’s genetic building blocks offer a driving experience unlike anything built by BMW for decades before or after its short production run. Under the bonnet, you’ll find a 400 horsepower V8 engine derived from the E39 M5 mated to a six speed manual, lending the Z8 enough pace to out-sprint Ferrari’s contemporary V8 mid-engined supercars to 60 mph.

So the Z8 looks the part and goes like a scalded rat, but what makes this example so special? Well, this two-owner example was first acquired by none other than Prince Albert of Monaco, who owned this Z8 until 2008 when it was sold via Paris Monceau SA in Neuilly-sur-Seine to its current custodian. Now presenting in exceptional condition with under 37,000 km on the odometer, this Z8 is accompanied by its rare original hard top, tonneau cover, wind deflector, complete tool kit, three sets of keys in addition to accessory keys, and a large file of invoices. If one of the most attractive and enjoyable driver’s cars built by BWM in the last three decades sounds appealing, this Z8 is the car for you.
