Mercedes-Benz and its British partner McLaren officially bid farewell to the SLR in 2009 with the SLR Stirling Moss, a speedster limited to 75 units and highly coveted by collectors. But that wasn’t the end of the story for the supercar with the three-pointed star. From 2010, owners could have their SLR upgraded to McLaren Edition spec by MSO, McLaren’s bespoke division in Woking, for £150,000. Carbon fibre body parts and new diffusers deliver 15 percent more downforce than the SLR 722 Edition, while vents above the front wheel arches recall the SLR 722 GT race car. The suspension sits 10 mm lower, the steering is sharper, and a lightweight exhaust gives the V8 an even meatier soundtrack. All told, the car shed 50 kg.

Only 25 cars received the MSO treatment, just six of them Roadsters. According to Broad Arrow, no two are alike, as customer requests sometimes differed considerably. The auction house will offer one of these Roadsters at its sale at the Dolder Grand in Zurich on 7 November. Finished in Anthracite Grey, the 2008 SLR comes with every available option, including orange accents in the cabin and an upgraded cooling system that lets the V8 hold its full output for longer. Its conversion was reportedly completed in June 2017. The estimate is CHF 575,000 to 675,000, or roughly 620,000 to 725,000 euros.
