This year’s event was split over two days for the first time, with Saturday focused on classics, and Sunday dedicated to contemporary supercars. The wonderfully astute Lord Pembroke’s vision for the event, held annually since 2008, is obvious – to exhibit an impossibly diverse range of classic and supercars (reflecting his own automotive tastes and interests) in a relaxed and picturesque environment, in a bid to inspire old and young audiences alike. 

As an official media partner, Classic Driver was given the responsibility of awarding the ‘Best Classic in Show’ trophy, which, as Lord Pembroke was keen to point out, wasn’t strictly reserved for a concours queen. With this in mind (and after much, much deliberation), we chose Andrew Yaras’ elegant dark green Iso Grifo, for a variety of reasons…

Two brothers, one mission

Few further details about the car have been revealed (even the cylinder count of the chosen Bavarian engine is still under wraps), but the marque has made assurances of “a modern take on the best of British craftsmanship, engineered to excite and satisfy.” It’ll be the first new car in 10 years from the recently revived marque, which has been outsourcing its engines since 1961. We must say, BMW appears to be a better match for Bristol than Chrysler – not only in terms of geographical location, but aeronautical heritage, too.

Trendsetter

Built in collaboration with revered designer Gordon Murray, the new car will allegedly retain the traditional TVR front engine, rear-drive layout, weigh a scant 1,110kg, and draw power from a naturally aspirated Cosworth V8; all of which should please the remaining (and large) contingent of faithful TVR enthusiasts immensely.

The answer is Shelby, whose teams of Cobra roadsters and more aerodynamic Cobra Daytona Coupés knocked Ferrari off its European perch during the 1965 season, with a string of wins at Monza, Oulton Park and the Nürburgring, plus a second at Spa -  and, just for good measure, victory in Austria's Rossfeld hillclimb.
