Casa Alfa Romeo celebrates icons of speed at Fuoriconcorso Velocissimo

On 24-25 May, some of the greatest Italian racecars will line up on the shores of Lake Como for Fuoriconcorso Velocissimo. One of the event’s absolute highlights is the display of Milanese thoroughbreds from the House of Alfa Romeo.

The annual Fuoriconcorso on the shores of Lake Como has been our must-attend event of the year since we supported the launch of the very first edition of the glamorous event in 2019. But our absolute highlight in the event’s history – and a moment we will not forget anytime soon – was the start of the engines on the historical Formula 1 grid at last year’s "Fuoriconcorso British Racing Green" edition, celebrating the United Kingdom’s racing history with an ear-shattering concert. This year, Fuoriconcorso Velocissimo will put the spotlight on Italy’s unparalleled motorsports heritage – and we have a feeling that the F1 icons greeting visitors when they first enter the lakefront park surrounding Villa del Grumello might be even more impressive. We won’t reveal the full F1 line-up just yet – but one of the absolute stars of the grid will certainly be the Alfa Romeo GP Tipo 159 of 1951. The famous “Alfetta” dominated the first two Formula 1 World Championships, thrashed its competition with its 450 hp 8-cylinder in-line engine, and won the World Title with Juan Manuel Fangio – the first of the Argentine champion’s five laurels. We cannot wait to see the exceptional single seater in the flesh.

But that’s not it for fans of the Biscione power house: at Villa Sucota, Casa Alfa Romeo has dedicated a full exhibition to the beating heart of Italian motorsports. One of the icons on display is a breathrakingly beautiful and fast Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 Gran Sport, similar to the car driven to victory at the Mille Miglia in 1930 by Tazio Nuvolari, casually beating the average speed record over the entire route. Meanwhile, the Alfa Romeo Giulia TZ2 must be hailed as one of the most ‘brutiful’ racecars ever made; created by Zagato as an evolution of the previous Giulia TZ, with a low and tapered body, it dominated the 1965 season when it won the 12 Hours of Sebring, the Targa Florio and the 1000 km of the Nürburgring.

One decade later, the Alfa Romeo 33 TT 12 with its iconic Campari livery dominated the World Championship for constructors in 1975, securing Alfa Romeo the fourth world championship laurel in its history. Naturally, the best pilot of the Tipo 33 equipped with the 12-cylinder 180° V engine in that “magical” '75 season was the racing cowboy Arturo Merzario. All these cars are not just racing cars – they have marked unforgettable eras in motorsport and will be joined by other iconic cars Made in Biscione.

At Fuoriconcorso, the celebration of car culture does not stop with the past – and one modern supercar guaranteed to draw crowds during the weekend is the new Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale. The car, presented in 2023 and produced in just 33 sold-out units, represents the return of the legendary 33 Stradale – an icon of the Sixties, considered by many to be one of the most beautiful cars ever made and directly derived from the Tipo 33 that was such an important protagonist of world motorsport. Considering all these fantastic cars, we cannot wait for Fuoriconcorso Velocissimo to open its doors.
