Maserati's sporting image during the 1950s was largely defined by technically sophisticated monoposti like the 250F, driven into motorsport history by legends such as Fangio and Sir Stirling Moss. However, an American customer firmly believed that the cars bearing the Trident emblem could be competitive beyond international circuit racing. In 1956, Richard "Dick" Cicurel ordered one of just 21 Maserati A6G models featuring Allemano coachwork. He then had the factory staff in Modena transform the car, chassis number 2147, into a genuine rally machine.
The car was ultimately fitted with a total of 50 rally-specific features that make it truly one of a kind. These upgrades included a larger fuel tank, a racing limited-slip differential, special reversing lights, and Marchal auxiliary lamps. The interior also received a Jaeger-LeCoultre chronograph, an instrument Cicurel had previously used in his Bugatti but which was given a place of honor in his new Maserati.
Seventy years later, this exact A6G is now part of the inventory at Fantasy Junction. With this offering, the Californian dealer presents one of the most remarkable Maseratis of its era. Powered by a 2.0-liter inline-six engine, the Italian classic not only secured a class victory at Pebble Beach last year but is also highly eligible for the most prestigious historic rallies. These include the Mille Miglia, the Colorado Grand, and numerous other highlights on the classic rally calendar.
