Just 43 built: this luxurious Porsche 911 special edition was the G-Series' crowning finale

As one of 43 Carrera 3.2 Convertibles built from the special edition "25 Years of the Porsche 911", that has low mileage, this 1988 example, produced in the final model year of the still rather purist G-Series, is a rare and all the more shining jewel of early 911 history.

It was the summer of 1988 when Porsche launched this special edition to mark the 25th anniversary of the 911 and at the same time to say farewell to the G-Model generation, introduced way back in 1973. Besides the convertible, Coupés and Targas were also shipped across the Atlantic and as far as Japan, but German customers exclusively got the open-air derivative. This particular car is currently for sale at Luxus & Veloce in Portugal. It was newly registered on May 23, 1989, and is one of only 43 convertibles in the powerful Carrera 3.2 version (231 PS). The car also boasts a mileage of only 42,130 miles.

With its dark blue metallic paintwork selected exclusively for the German cars, a light "pearl grey" interior, wooden trim strips on the leather-covered dashboard, light-colored carpets and iconic Fuchs rims, this open "G" is an eye-catcher from every angle. Other special features of the German models are the full-length center console and a digital outside temperature display. Unlike US and Japan-bound vehicles, the German version does not feature a "25 Years of 911" badge on the dash.

This won't bother the future owner much; instead, he or she may look forward to amenities such as comfort seats with adjustable seat heating, a shortened gear stick, a Blaupunkt radio "Bremen," and a sound package including booster. All this enhances the driving experience, and in case of a sudden downpour, an electrically operated soft top quickly provides shelter from the elements.

This stunning representative of the "G" generation, which was replaced by the Porsche 964 the following year, is one of the rarest 911s ever built, and for this reason alone, it is a tempting offer for any serious collector of early 911s is a tempting offer for any serious collector, simply because, back then, this combination of body, engine, and color and trim wasn't available for regular 911s.
