For how much longer will these Porsche 911 Turbos be so cheap?
It seems everybody is looking for a well-preserved yet affordable 996-gen Porsche 911 Turbo. With its all-wheel drive and powerful 400HP-plus engine, the 911 Turbo has always been the ultimate Autobahn stormer. And the 996-generation variant could be considered a spiritual successor to the mythical 959, but for a fraction of the price. You can find examples of Zuffenhausen’s former flagship for less than 40,000 euros. And even the finest low-mileage specimens are hardly nudging the 100,000-euro mark. In any case, we predict a bright future for the Porsche 996 Turbo.

RM Sotheby's - Online Only: Palm Beach 2020
BIDDING IS NOW OPEN - LOTS START CLOSING ON 25 MARCH
RM Auctions’ forthcoming Palm Beach auction, scheduled for 20–21 March at the Palm Beach International Raceway, has been transitioned into an Online Only time-based offering.
The decision to shift this live auction to the company’s online platform comes in light of the current guidance from public health officials regarding the global COVID-19 outbreak.
Launched in 2019, the RM Online Only division has demonstrated great success thus far, providing consignors and bidders a platform that allows for faster transactions to take place while still harnessing the level of service and reach associated with the RM Sotheby’s brand.
Each car will be presented with comprehensive photography as well as condition reports completed by RM Sotheby’s specialists. Where available, additional information on each lot, such as history files, production certificates, restoration documentation, service invoices, owner’s manuals, and accompanying parts can be viewed online, once you have created an account and/or you are logged in, by clicking the “View Files” button on the individual lot page.
Bidder registration is open for Online Only: The Palm Beach Auction and has very simple steps to complete. Should you need any assistance, our Client Service team is ready and able to walk you through any part of the process.
The auction lots will start closing on 25th of March at 11am ET, and each lot will close in 5-minute increments in the order of lots presented. Please note that there is an ‘anti-sniping’ feature whereby if a bid is placed in the final 2 minutes of the auction close, the auction will automatically extend for another 2 minutes to allow for other bidder to bid.
Please also note that for unreserved lots in this auction, bidding starts at $50 and the lot will sell to the highest bidder at the end of the auction. For lots with reserves, bidding starts at half (50%) of the published low estimate, and the final bid must exceed the reserve price in order to sell to the highest bidder. Whether the reserve has been met will not be disclosed until the auction has ended.

Why not buy a complete collection of black Porsche Speedsters?
Last year, we had the opportunity to experience all five generations of the Porsche 911 Speedster together on the Gotthard Pass. Now, there are five Speedsters for sale in the Classic Driver Market, creating the opportunity to acquire the perfect collection in one fell swoop.
Great expectations – does McLaren’s new GT live up to its name?
The car was supposed to be blue. The destination was supposed to be Downtown Los Angeles. The idea? To write a piece about whether McLaren’s new GT lives up to its ‘Grand Touring’ nomenclature – whether it’s a car suited to a town in which one spends most of the time stuck in traffic or travelling between destinations that feel far enough apart to be in different time zones. See, unlike in European cities, people do drive in La La Land. A two-hour trip to get to the beach? Sure. A 25-mile jaunt to the shops? Of course. But then life intervened.

What would you drive home from this online-only RM Sotheby’s sale?
Comprising over 200 lots, the bumper online-only Palm Beach sale from RM Sotheby’s is cram-packed with fascinating collector cars to suit most tastes and budgets. Perhaps unsurprisingly, there is a lot of Americana offered, as well as several relatively high-profile thematic collections such as the wonderful assembly of Rolls-Royces formerly owned by Bikram Choudhury.
