As good as gold: Fellows to auction vintage watches

For the ‘kings’ of late-1980s Wall Street, a solid-gold watch was almost a pre-requisite. Several timepieces that wouldn’t look out of place on the wrist of Gordon Gekko will soon go under the hammer at Fellows’ January auction, and we’ve selected some of our favourites…

Whether a Cartier Santos, Vacheron Constantin 222 or Rolex President, the watches worn in the 1980s offices of the largest Wall Street banks invariably glistered with gold – or at the very least, had an attention-grabbing design. In the catalogue for the forthcoming Fellows watch auction are some other timepieces which have aged just as well, yet could have been worn proudly by Manhattan’s money men.
