Topless at 217mph – the new Lamborghini Aventador SV Roadster

Even though the ‘Superveloce’ appellation dates back to the Miura, Lamborghini has just revealed the first convertible iteration in the form of the Aventador SV Roadster. It will be limited to 500 examples…

The epitome of boulevard bravado

In principle, the notion of removing the roof from an ultra-focused sports car is irrational: the body loses stiffness, and the aerodynamic silhouette is inevitably compromised. But let’s be honest, most supercar buyers will not care about losing a few tenths on the track if it means they have the most dramatic car on the boulevard. In this respect, the Lamborghini Aventador SV Roadster – revealed this weekend at the Monterey Car Week – is a logical consequence. The engineers have managed to retain performance numbers boasted by the SV coupé (740bhp; 217mph top speed; 0-62mph in 2.9 seconds), and have kept the weight of the carbonfibre roof to a mere 12kg. Production begins in Spring 2016, with each of the 500 examples costing €357,000 plus local taxes.

You can find several Lamborghini Aventadors for sale in the Classic Driver Market.
