Throwback to a lost era

With over 400 exhibits in 21 themed rooms, the Watch Art Grand Exhibition is the largest Patek Philippe exhibition in the world. It offers a rare opportunity to look behind the scenes at the prestigious family-run watch brand’s long and illustrious history. 

Rotating watch bezels are primarily used to display such information as speed, remaining dive time, pulse frequency or flight duration, depending on the intended application. However, the Little Griddle watch uses the ‘Grill Bezel’ to set optimum cooking time, whether for a simple hamburger or a delicious salmon fillet.

Collectors are becoming increasingly interested in pilots' watches; they’re robustly built, and their functional design is born from their need to operate in extreme situations – hence their attraction to design purists, too. The Heuer Bundeswehr 3H, designed for the German armed forces, is one such watch. It not only looks smartly understated with its black casing and matching dial, but is also one of the few Heuers to sport a ‘flying second’.

Phillips auction house is back in the watch world with a bang. Now under the direction of living watch auction legend Aurel Bacs, it immediately announced two sales: the Rolex Day-Date anniversary sale on the 9 May 2015 and the large watch auction on 10 May. A total of 22.5 million euros were traded in total. Even though the top lot of the auctions, a historic Patek Philippe chronograph which was sold for an incredible 4.5 million euros including premium, the Rolex Daytona owned by Eric Clapton also achieved a remarkable record.
