While most cars’ ‘safe operating angle’ is far less than five degrees, let alone 30, Land Rover isn’t here to be like most other automotive manufacturers. And although the Series I off-roader has been designed and built as a short-term venture to keep the Rover car company busy and in business throughout the depressed post-War years, the small company from Newborough, Anglesey, has a successful future ahead of it — one that not only includes a Royal Warrant from King George VI but also a devoted following from British and international fans alike.

Cars ran so deeply through Bodo Buschmann’s veins that he couldn’t even wait until he’d finished studying to found Brabus, a company dedicated to the refinement of Mercedes-Benzes. And in the seven years since, he’s not only become renowned for his high-quality, audacious-looking, and technologically impressive creations, but he’s also helped to make vehicle tuning an acceptable (and respectable) industry. The success is a testament to his hard work, ambition, and ability to select the very best people from their respective fields to surround himself.

Throughout the 1980s, fast German saloons were hot commodities, with the Mercedes-Benz 190E and BMW M3 E30 dominating both the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters championship and consumer sales – a no doubt direct cause-and-effect situation. With popularity comes the freedom to get creative, and different upgrades and iterations of the models — both factory authorised and privately built — began to appear from the woodwork.
