The car in question, which is currently for sale with Classic Driver dealer Duncan Hamilton ROFGO, is a Porsche 962C fitted with a special and ultra-aerodynamic body by its original owner, the British privateer Richard Lloyd. “Richard always had an ambition to build a quicker car than the factory could,” recalled Jochen Mass as he prepared to strap in for his first run up the world-famous Goodwood hill-climb.

Franz-Josef Kempen founded Royal Motors Kempen in the south of Cologne in 1967 and, initially, brought Rhenish motorists closer to high-quality and exotic British brands such as Triumph, MG, Austin, and Morris ever since. The missionary work was successful and in 1970, Jaguar and Land Rover were added to its inventory. A small claim to fame is that it delivered the 100,000th Jaguar XJ Series III.
Few people can lay claim to having driven a Porsche 911 at over 100mph at the age of nine but Paul Stephens can. By that age, Stephens was already experienced behind the wheel – he learned to drive in a Land Rover on his family’s farm when he was just six years old and, perhaps inevitably, had his first accident the following year.
