New Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT

An enhanced version of the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG now boasts 591HP from its 6.3-litre front-mid-mounted V8 engine (up by 20HP), 0-62mph in 3.7 seconds (down by 0.1sec), faster gearshifts and improved suspension.

The uprated model is known as the SLS AMG GT, and aims to offer better driving dynamics and an even sportier experience behind the wheel. Aside from the increase in power and more rapid performance figures, the more extreme nature of the GT model is illustrated by the new AMG ‘Ride Control Performance’ suspension, which promises stiffer spring/damper tuning – and dispenses with the Comfort mode altogether.

Instead, ‘Sport’ mode is recommended for undulating road surfaces such as found on ‘the legendary North Loop of the Nürburgring’. But for the days when one finds oneself ‘trying to achieve fast lap times on a race circuit such as Hockenheim’, the manufacturer suggests you’d be better off selecting ‘Sport plus’, with higher damping forces and the promise of mysterious ‘feature control algorithms’ appropriate for more level road surfaces. Well, quite. Although no advice appears to be given for, say, the M25. I guess you’ll just have to muddle along as best you can.
