Think the 1,000Nm Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG is nuts? Check out its interior

Standing proudly as the marque’s flagship model and engine choice, the W220 S65 AMG was Mercedes-Benz at the pinnacle of their game during the early noughties. This example available with Finnish dealer Harri Asunta hides a vibrant surprise behind its interminable doors…

Making a bold leap forward when it was introduced to the world back in 1999, the Mercedes-Benz W220-generation would be the car that many executives, heads of states and celebrities would welcome a new millennium in while lounging in the plush leather rear seats. Replacing the boxier-styled W140, the refreshed and entirely redesigned S-Class amazed with its advancements, including Airmatic air suspension, active ventilated seats, Mercedes-Benz’s own Distronic radar cruise control, active cylinder control, and full curtain‑airbag protection, a pioneering safety feature which set the standard for road car safety.

While the entry level S-Class models were stylish and luxurious for most, for those seeking a little extra oomph and individuality could take a deep dive into AMG’s brochures, creating a big-bodied Benz that would rival supercars in performance, and in their road presence. This example, available via Harri Asunta is just that, a greatest hit of AMG-brochure goodness, complete with a mighty six-litre, twin turbo V12 that produces 612 horsepower and a frankly outrageous 1,001 Nm of torque. In plain terms, that’s more torque than a Lamborghini Aventador SVJ. Originally ordered new to a Japanese client, in Finland, where the car now resides, they actually never received the opportunity to purchase the S65 AMG, and the model was instead included in Mercedes’ 2004 importer price list, available for a staggering 322,000 euros!

Dressed in Alabaster White with two-tone AMG Split wheels, that now iconic, slightly dimpled AMG bodykit combined the W220’s elegance with a sportier edge, as well as rear tinted glass and those mighty quad exhausts. The exterior has truly aged wonderfully in 21 years, but step inside this S65 AMG to discover its true party piece. An incredibly rare option of two-tone black and bright blue leather clads the large cabin space, with the vibrant blue accents only adorning the seats, leaving the rest to feel as luxurious as you would expect from the marque’s ultimate wafter. This unique colour combination, as well as extended walnut trims across the dashboard, centre console and gearbox make this S-Class a true head turner, and that’s before you’ve unleashed that monstrous engine under the bonnet!
