Beschreibung

1987 Ferrari Testarossa Spider Lorenz & Rankl
absolutely stunning condition

Ferrari cars have always been a great source of inspiration for the most eye catching and unofficial one-offs and very limited series from various coach builders. The 166/212 Export Uovo bodied by Fontana, the 250 GT Breadvan, the 250 Europa Vignale, the 330 and 365 Michelotti, the 330 2+2 Shooting Brake Vignale, the 365 GTB/4 Panther are some quite mind blowing examples. Love them or hate them. Obviously, during the late 70’s and 80’s, coach builders and tuners have given everything to create the most exaggerated cars, trying to steal the show with each of their creations, and to catch the attention of the most flamboyant playboys!

Following the BB512 in the late 70 and early 80’s, the Testarossa has been one of the prefered models coach builders to create the most exhilarating cars. Many of them were just too much: too low, too wide, too flashy, too everything! Most of these cars have disappeared, unfortunately, often restored to their original specifications, or even destroyed. In the end, they were just modified Ferraris with a very small value. We regret it a lot, because you can like them or hate them, but they were the testimony of this era. Like it or not.
Lorenz & Rankl was one of these crazy coach builders. But unlike most of the other ones, he didn’t specialize in the « too much », but in the cut cars, producing the missing convertible versions of a few of them: Ferrari 308, BB512 and Testarossa.

In 1988, Lorenz & Rankl modified a small series of 5 Testarossa Spiders. With one very important characteristic : the cars were taken from the production line in Maranello, transported to Bavaria to be carefully transformed and re-engineered (including reinforcement of the chassis and fitment of the semi-electronic folding roof), and then sent back to Ferrari to be completed. They were then delivered by the official dealers to their customers. The Lorenz & Rankl was in fact the semi-official convertible version of the Testarossa, and the result is particularly elegant, with the roof up or down, unlike the cars from other coach builders. We can explain the very small number of cars produced by the fact that the transformation cost half the price of the car!
The car we’re thrilled to offer is one of these 5 cars, one of 3 for the French market, and one of 2 finished in Giallo. It has been delivered in June 1989 by Charles Pozzi and remained in France ever since. Always maintained by Ferrari dealers, and more recently by the best specialists of the brand, it is in immaculate condition, and is a real blast to drive! This is a rarest opportunity to buy the missing link of one of the most iconic models of Maranello!
