Since its birth in 2015, the boutique Italian microbrand Unimatic has produced just two models: the Modello Uno diver and the Modello Due field watch. And for good reason – they’re beautifully minimalist pieces that meld vintage and contemporary design cues with an enviable Italian effortlessness. Throw in the fact that each of their numerous iterations, often designed in collaboration with other trendy brands, are produced in very small numbers, and Unimatic has the ears of the watch community well and truly pricked. 

When Baltic launched its first collection on Kickstarter back in the spring of 2017, it was overwhelmed by the response from the watch community. Vintage-inspired (but not copycat) mechanical watches built properly and at an affordable price point – what’s not to love? 

Commonly regarded as the last truly romantic era of motorsport, Group B rallying had it all: snarling and ultra-powerful cars built to essentially boundless rules, fearless and charismatic heroes willing to lay their lives down on every stage, and the world’s most challenging terrain, ranging from the snow-covered serpentines of Sweden to the dust-stifling and searing dunes of the desert. 

Take the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona reference 6241 in 18-carat yellow gold, otherwise known as the ‘John Player Special’ (for obvious reasons), for example. The fresh-to-market watch is one of just a handful of known examples and is in frankly stunning condition. It’s estimated accordingly at 500,000–1m US dollars.
