In the 15 years since Bentley entrusted Breitling with the task of designing an onboard clock for its Continental GT, we’ve seen numerous timepieces that embody the shared values of the two luxury brands, namely ultra-high quality, timeless design, and strong performance. Now, the next chapter of the partnership is set to be written. Rather than a separate Bentley collection, Breitling will incorporate its new Bentley watches into its core range, kicking off with the Premier B01 Chronograph 42.
For our 169th auction, we at Ineichen Auctions have prepared an incredibly diverse selection of antique, vintage and modern timepieces to satisfy all needs. Counting almost 290 objects, our November 17 auction features everything from a 19th century, Japanese One Hand Clock to the steampunk Vanney Halter Antiqua wrist watch.
With our November 17 sale we are partially returning to our old ways, while sticking to time telling instruments. Since their peak in the 80s and early 90s, pocket watches have lost most of their momentum, but not all of it, as the sale of a beautiful, late 19th century Patek-Philippe pocket watch proved at our last May auction. With a hammer price of CHF 46’000 it exceeded its lower estimate by a factor of five. We at Ineichen stay true to the venerable pocket watch and are proud to offer affordable IWC Schützenuhren, as well as delicate A. Lange & Söhne gold watches and a stunning 1920s Audemars Piguet with a perpetual calendar.
Continuing the theme of tradition and diversity, Auction No. 169 features no less than 26 stopwatches by Heuer and Minerva. There is a stopwatch for almost every occasion imaginable, starting with car racing, sailing and rowing and ending with film making. Want to measure 1/100 of a second with a mechanical watch? Or need a pulse and respiration frequency measuring one? We got you covered.
The bulk of the lots are occupied by traditional vintage and modern wrist watches. This allows us to present a wide selection of different exemplars, ranging from simple but beautiful Omegas to perpetual calendar sporting Lange & Söhnes. The classics, such as a selection of Royal Oaks, vintage Ingenieurs and Portofinos are represented as well. We made sure to cover several price ranges to allow watch enthusiasts from all walks of life to find their favourite piece and take it home too.
A very special section of Auction No. 169 is dedicated to contemporary independent watchmakers. Not weighted down by tradition, these men and women often explore their craft to the fullest and manage to surprise us with their creative and unusual creations. While Andersen Geneve does away with a classic dial in their Montre a Tact model, the Vanney Halter Antiqua features four independent ones. These watchmakers can get away with replacing the hour and minute hands with eyes and the moon phase with a red tongue, as their wrist watches still display the most exquisite of craftsmanship. You may have not heard of Sarpaneva, Maitres du Temps or Christiaan v.d. Klaauw before, but you won’t’ be able to draw your eyes away from their beautiful and beautifully weird creations.
