I just rode shotgun during the Jaguar XJ13’s maiden lap of Le Mans...

Considering the Jaguar XJ13’s ill-fated intentions of competing at the Le Mans 24 Hours in the late 1960s (it was ultimately rendered a stillborn by shifting regulations), passenger comfort unsurprisingly wasn’t too high on the list of priorities. What’s more, it was designed entirely around the rather diminutive Norman Dewis so, at six feet tall, I knew it was going to be a bit of a squeeze for me. What’s more, I was told a hot pipe runs parallel with each leg, but that I wouldn’t find out just how hot until we were on the move.

A 66% sell-through rate and a gross 8.718m euros (including buyer’s premium) for the collector car contingent of the sale was all auctioneer Hervé Poulain could muster from the untypically flat saleroom, which, according to managing director Matthieu Lamoure, was conspicuous by its absence of British collectors. The weakened pound against the euro in the aftermath of Brexit was no doubt to blame, as the market joins hundreds of others adjusting to the drastic change.

Description

There is so much for collectors and lovers of classic cars to look forward to in this auction. The selection on offer includes popular manufacturers like BMW, Porsche, Lamborghini, Mercedes, Volkswagen, Ford, Rolls Royce and Bentley. Auction highlights are a 1969 Ford Mustang Shelby GT 500, and a 1966 Ford Mustang 302cui Coupé.
Further outstanding lots include a 1966 VW T1 Crew Cab, a 1993 Porsche 964 Carrera RS America and a 1988 Daimler Double Six, Series 3. The auction also features an excellent selection of more recent cars, such as a 2001 BMW Z3 3,0 Coupé, and a 2002 Roadster. The remarkable 2007 Mercedes-Benz S 65 AMG Sedan Long, which was awarded the ”Goldenes Lenkrad“ (Golden Wheel) in the ”luxury class“, category along with other prizes by specialist magazines and reader polls, is also present in this auction.
