Bonhams -The Beaulieu Sale 2018

On 24–25 August, the team at Gooding & Company will make the relatively short journey from their Santa Monica HQ up the Pacific coast to the Pebble Beach Equestrian Centre for their flagship collector car auction.
Provenance – it’s all the rage these days, especially when it comes to cars. Much like people and rhythm, some cars have it while others just don’t. In the case of this Porsche 934, which has raced at Le Mans no fewer than six times, it’s got it in spades.
The Bond Street auction house might not have consigned as many stars as RM Sotheby’s or Gooding & Company, but the catalogue for its annual Quail Lodge sale is still teeming with interesting and desirable motorcars nonetheless. As mentioned, the headliner is the 1962 Ferrari 250 GT ‘Short Wheelbase’.
Back in 2013, Jaguar resurrected the Jaguar D-type – in spirit, at least – with the Project 7, a limited edition drop-top sports car that was faster, lighter, and much (much) louder than the F-type upon which it was based. Its name referenced the marque’s seven Le Mans victories, while design cues such as the driver-side fin harked back to the D-type – arguably the greatest and most successful car to come out of Coventry.
