It was in 1959 that Richard Attwood made his competitive debut at Goodwood, encouraged by his father, who owned a chain of prosperous car dealerships in the Midlands and had previously dabbled in motorsport himself. During the course of the following decade and seven seasons of professional motorsport, Attwood ascended through the single seater ranks to race BRMs and Lotus’ in Formula 1, the undisputed highlight of which was finishing second to Graham Hill in the 1968 Monaco Grand Prix. 

Almost three years ago, we had the pleasure of being the first magazine to be invited to see Guy Berryman’s magnificent car collection. A lot has happened since then – Guy has toured the world with his band Coldplay, established his own automotive print magazine, the widely praised Road Rat Magazine, and become one of the go-to experts for classic Porsches and vintage Heuer watches.

Both the RM Sotheby’s Palm Beach and Bonhams Goodwood Members’ Meeting sales were due to take place last weekend. But while the physical sales were inevitably called off because of the coronavirus pandemic, the respective catalogues were instead offered virtually.
