When Gordon Murray Automotive pulled the covers off the S1 LM during Monterey Car Week, we were told that they would build just five examples and that all were already sold. However, it turns out that there is one remaining S1 LM build slot up for grabs, which is set to be auctioned with RM Sotheby’s during the Las Vegas Grand Prix weekend later this month. As one would expect the estimates are stratospheric and it’s predicted to sell for more than 20 million dollars, placing the S1 LM on par in terms of value with the original McLaren F1 GTR.

As a refresher, the S1 LM is a hardcore, track-focused variant of the GMA T.50. The big difference here is the S1 LM is the first model to be developed by the Gordon Murray Special Vehicles department, and will drop the T.50’s trick fan setup to achieve an ultra-light dry weight of less than 957 kilograms. Pair this featherweight frame with specially-designed 4.3-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine from Cosworth pushing out 730 horsepower, and you have a frankly ridiculous power to weight ratio of around 760 horsepower per tonne.

However, while the S1 LM trumps the F1 GTR both in terms of rarity and raw specs, some argue it lacks the historical significance and Le-Mans winning pedigree of Gordon Murray’s first track-focused hypercar. Regardless of where you stand with this ultra-exclusive track toy, it will be fascinating to see the final figure when the hammer drops on November 21st.
