Go back five years, and Sean Wotherspoon is not a name you'd typically expect to find in the classic car world. His currency is more based around clothing, hype, colour, and culture, with the American designer becoming a household name after his collaboration on the Nike Air Max 97 swept a public design vote and became one of the most coveted trainers of the late 2010s. He possesses a natural ability to go bolder than most, and create designs that command your attention, be that in a piece of footwear, clothing or, in a vehicle. When Porsche came knocking in 2023, he dressed a Taycan in corduroy, cork, and recycled fishing nets. When California-based collector Phillip Sarofim asked him to reimagine a 1973 911 Carrera RS 2.7, the interior ended up in vintage denim and leftover cork from that very Taycan project, his projects are bold, bright and beautiful, and this Land Rover is no exception. Now, it heads to RM Sotheby’s upcoming sale at Woodcote Park on July 8, where it will sell with no reserve – likely to spark an art car collector bidding frenzy. 

Built to 1959 model-year specification on an 88-inch short wheelbase and originally destined for the export market, the left-hand-drive Series II was handed to British customizer Jimmy Howson from Stuff by Spot in March 2025. Over the following months, the pair worked with a specialist Essex workshop to transform it, with the exterior now wearing Wotherspoon's signature colour-block treatment, a riot of bold panels that nod directly to Volkswagen's legendary Golf Mk3 Harlequin. Proof that the best references are always the most obscure ones. Inside, the patchwork upholstery in plaid and vintage materials showcases more of Wotherspoon’s now signature style, tactile, considered, and gloriously extra.

Retaining at least some of its capabilities, the Landy was treated to new 16-inch Wolf wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich All-Terrain tyres, ensuring the thing can actually go off-road, while smaller touches like a modern stereo with Apple CarPlay means you're never without a playlist to match this head turner. After its Monterey Car Week debut in August 2025, the Series II will cross the block without reserve at RM Sotheby's upcoming sale, estimated between £60,000 and £100,000.
