We bet you’ve never seen a carbon fibre-bodied Ford Escort before

Even in the restomod world, there are tiers to how crazy a recreation can be. Offering modern takes on much-loved classics, Welsh builders MST well and truly threw out the restomodding rulebook with their latest Ford Escort-based creation, dubbed the Mk2 EVO-X Carbon Fibre.

The soft mud seeps into the grooves of your wellington boots. The damp mist lingers in the air. In the distance you see it, your body tensing up in excitement and anticipation, as the unmistakable sound of a twin-cammed Ford hurtles towards you, disappearing as fast as it appeared in a shower of mud and gravel. To some, standing in the rain to catch a momentary glimpse of a car may seem like mental and physical torture, but for those addicted to motorsport, nothing comes close, and the Ford Escort symbolises rallying in Great Britain better than just about any other vehicle. As decades have rolled by, the love for these working class heroes has grown immeasurably, with one even fetching over 275,000 pounds in a recent auction, and now they've become the ideal candidate for a restomod makeover.

This is restmodding to the absolute extreme, transforming the plucky Mk2 Ford Escort into a true thoroughbred machine built for whatever the lucky client desires. Its creators, MST Cars, whose state-of-the-art facility in North Wales is no stranger to crafting the ultimate Escorts, built the EVO-X Carbon Fibre after 12 months of meticulous design and engineering. Creating carbon fibre moulds for all the Mk2's outer body panels, this restomod sheds an incredible 75% of the weight typically associated with steel panels. The result, as you would expect, is a lightweight, high-performance machine that can be tailored to suit any enthusiast, whether for the road, the race track, or hill climbs.

Featuring a wonderfully-named ‘droop snoot’ nose cone, designed to enhance aerodynamics while housing the newly-developed LED headlights, which deliver a modern touch to the car's classic silhouette, the entire car boasts a full suite of racing-grade components, including AP Racing 6-pot brakes, as well as a range of suspension options including Bilstein, Tractive, and Reiger systems for a custom ride to suit tough terrain and tarmac alike. At the heart of the car lies a naturally aspirated 2.8-litre Millington Diamond engine, producing an impressive 360 horsepower, and lucky buyers can choose between a traditional H-pattern gearbox or a high-performance sequential gearbox to match their driving style.

The humble Escort has been truly reinvented into the ultimate modern machine for the driving enthusiast. Despite its ultra-lightweight exterior and race-specified components, its character remains, housed within your choice of a high-performance road car, a dedicated race car, or a hill climb weapon. This versatility is exactly why so many loved, and continue to love the Ford Escort!
