DBS from ‘The Persuaders!’ sets world record at Bonhams’ Aston Martin sale

The Aston Martin DBS that found fame as the steed of Roger Moore’s character Lord Brett Sinclair in ‘The Persuaders!’ fetched £533,500 on Saturday – a world record for a DBS sold at auction…

Returning to the home of Aston Martin Works – where it was prepared before filming and subsequently restored – the Bahama Yellow DBS took pride of place in the Bonhams auction hall. Attracting attention from selfie-snapping show enthusiasts and serious bidders alike, it eventually sold for £475,000 (£533,500 including buyer’s premium).

'Barn-finds' strike again

Also contributing strongly to the £8.7m sale total were a rare 1970 Aston Martin DB6 Mark 2 Volante – sold for £757,500 – and several of the ‘project condition’ cars. The latter group was led by ‘DP217’, a factory prototype DB5 in need of much work. Smashing through its estimate of £50,000 – 80,000 (perhaps somewhat modest for a ‘DP’ car of such importance, despite its condition), it went on to achieve £350,000, or £393,500 including premium.
