The Quail 2013: Field of Dreams

With its military parade and patriotic get-together to sing the National Anthem, ‘The Quail’ could only be an American event. For 11 years, Hong Kong native Sir Michael Kadoorie has welcomed guests to the golf course of his Quail Lodge resort in the heart of Carmel Valley. Evil tongues suggest that the classics which gather here are not up to the rigourous demands of the Pebble Beach jury, but it seems some owners in fact prefer to showcase their machines in The Quail's more relaxed atmosphere.

Bentley Mulsanne Le Mans Limited Edition debuts at Pebble Beach

Just 48 Mulsanne Le Mans Editions will be built, available in six separate specifications each celebrating a different Bentley personality - all with at least one Le Mans win under their belts. So, will it be the Tim Birkin or the Guy Smith spec? We know which one we’d choose: the Glen Kidston edition, complete with Dark Sapphire paintwork and sumptuous Imperial Blue/Newmarket Tan leather.

Features exclusive to all the Le Mans Editions include themed embroidery on all four headrests (there’s a numbered plaque, too), ‘quad-effect’ exhaust tips and 21-inch dark-tinted alloys.

A decade of Ferrari Classiche celebrated with a very special 250 LM

Ferrari has always understood that the company’s image is just as important as the performance of its road and racing car range. Ten years ago, the Ferrari Classiche department was created, based in the old foundry and with a mission to maintain the originality of classic Ferraris. Inspection, then restoration or remedial work back to original resulted in a certificate of conformity – and an increase in the value of the car.

1938 show-stopper: William Lyons’ Jaguar SS100 3.5-litre Coupé Prototype

...imagine a 17-year-old Gordon March driving away in this sublime sporting coupé.

It was also expensive: at £595 it was the most costly SS Jaguar ever produced. Lyons, even at 37 ever the businessman, sold the car straight off the stand to a Mr Leo March who bought it for his son.

Which was a generous gesture – imagine a 17-year-old Gordon March driving away in this sublime sporting coupé.

Underground Hero: The Yakuza supercars

At the heart of the film is a self-confessed Tokyo underworld ‘delinquent’ named Shinichi Morohoshi, and his crazily personalised Lamborghini.  Morohoshi-san was followed by film director Luke Huxham and his camera, mixing interviews with street scenes and much more. “My job is being a delinquent,” says Morohoshi-san. “I like flashy Lamborghinis, dangerous people, and Bosozoku (bike gangs).”
