In spite of various teething problems experienced by the innovative and avant-garde technology, the DS developed a fan base early on that Citroën catered for with an ever-improving car throughout its twenty-year career. In 1972, the DS 23 with a 2.3-litre engine (93.5 x 85.5mm) delivering 141 bhp with Bosch electronic injection (ref DX5), was classed amongst the fastest, most comfortable and safest road-going cars in the world. The DS finished its career using this tried and tested engineering in 1975, in either carburettor or injection versions. Since September 1970, the DS 21 had been equipped with a five-speed gearbox, and in November 1972 a Borg Warner automatic box was offered as an option. These types of transmission were used for the DS 23.
In 1964, Citroën had introduced a Pallas version of the DS 19, with a more luxurious finish both inside and out that the Prestige also benefitted from. Externally, amongst many other finishing details, the Pallas was immediately identifiable by its protective strip in stainless steel with rubber inset which runs across the door divides through to the rear reflector. This level of finish was later offered on the DS 20, 21 and 23 until production ceased.

The car offered is a DS 23 i.e. series FG from 1974 with a DX5 engine, automatic gearbox and Pallas finish. It was completely restored in Switzerland before being acquired by a Ferrari collector. Presented in black, it has a superb interior with burgundy fabric upholstery and matching carpets. The car has air-conditioning as well as the inner directional headlamps introduced as an option on the DS at the end of 1967, and standard on Pallas versions. Here is an exceptional opportunity to buy one of the ultimate and best designed DS models, to take to the road with style and elegance.
