Oldtimer Gallerie Toffen presents ‘Design Classics’ in Zurich

On 10 June 2012, the Swiss house Oldtimer Galerie Toffen will hold a sale of 50 motor cars at the Dolder Classics meeting in Zurich. Many of them are from Italian manufacturers.

A good example is the 1966 Abarth OT 1300, believed to be one of only 50 made. The special 1300cc four-cylinder is good for a screaming 130bhp so, with its low weight (740lb) and smooth lines, the little car would be a potent entry in historic racing. Price: ‘On Request’.

From France comes the Alpine-Renault A310 V6 Group IV car, at 32,000 - 36,000 CHF, while another mid-engined entry is the razor-edged 1989 De Tomaso Pantera GT5S, one of fewer than 100 built. The original owner bought this car directly from the De Tomaso stand at the 1990 Geneva Motor Show. It is the last Pantera GT5S delivered to the Swiss market. Estimate: 140,000 – 160,000 CHF.

Another car that combines Italian design with brawny American muscle is the 1970 Iso Rivolta IR 300. It might look every inch the discreet businessman’s express, but under the bonnet lies a 300bhp V8 which, combined with the four-speed gearbox, provides strong performance. It’s estimated at 55,000 – 60,000 CHF. But for those looking for a really fast Italian sports car, how about the 200,000 – 220,000 CHF, 1986 Lamborghini Countach LP 5000 S Quattrovalvole?

Or, for the style-hunters, the open-headlamp, 1966 Lancia Flaminia 3 C 2800 Super Sport Zagato?

Maserati prices are definitely on the up, and two cars from the famous Trident are in the sale. There is a 1965 3500 GTI (95,000 – 115,000 CHF) and a 1973 4.9-litre Bora estimated at 85,000 – 95,000 CHF.

Switzerland is not always known for its car industry; however, the manufacturer Monteverdi is an honourable exception. The unusual Monteverdi Hai MBM SP-100 OSCA from the 1960s has been in the same ownership since 1978. ‘On Request’ for price, please.

Other classics in the sale include some interesting Americana such as the nine-seater 1960 Pontiac V8 Safari Wagon (55,000 – 60,000 CHF) and the Paxton supercharger-equipped 1963 Studebaker Avanti, estimated at 48,000 – 52,000 CHF.
