Licence to Bid: Christie’s to hold ‘50 years of James Bond’ sale

All you wannabe secret agents and spies out there – here is your opportunity to acquire some astonishing gear for your collections, as Christie’s will be selling some unique James Bond memorabilia in London later this month.

Included in the sale are the teeny-tiny swimming trunks the British agent wore in ‘Casino Royale’ and a detailed scale model of the space shuttle from ‘Moonraker’. However, the crowning jewel of the auction is the Aston Martin DBS - the very supercar used by Daniel Craig's 007.

The charity auction celebrating the 50th silver screen anniversary of the British super-spy seems to be tailor-made for the James Bond aficionado, who wants to top off his collection with some truly extraordinary Bond goodies. As well as Daniel Craig's form-fitting, blue swimming trunks and the space shuttle replica, other items that stand out include Scaramanga’s Solex Agitator from ‘The Man With the Golden Gun’ and Solitaire’s tarot cards from ‘Live and Let Die’ – as well as many other peculiar items.

Ultimately, the absolute highlight of the 007-memorabilia event is the black 2008 model Aston Martin DBS coupé that appeared in the opening scenes of ‘Quantum of Solace’. Bond’s beautiful motor, originally used to elude various villains, is set to fetch at least £100,000 on 5 October. However, the successful bidder who drives away in this sleek supercar might feel at ease knowing that his money is going to a worthy cause – all proceeds from the auction will be given to a collection of international and national charities.

Considering the never-ceasing appeal of James Bond, prospective buyers had better be prepared for some serious action at the auction block. A secret agent's tricks could come in useful.

Forty lots will be on sale in the online auction, which runs from September 28 to October 8, 2012. Another 10 top lots will sell at a live invitation-only event on October 5 (Global James Bond Day), at Christie’s New Kensington.
