Lamborghini Veneno: Nine times a roadster

At the Geneva show earlier this year, Lamborghini presented the Veneno – an ‘aerodynamic artwork’ limited to just three units. Now, in customary Lamborghini fashion, follows the no-less-spectacular Roadster version…

The Veneno Roadster – a drop-top version of the Aventador-based Veneno – is a permanently open hypercar. That is, there is no roof; not even an impossibly clumsy, temporary tent to erect. A roof would simply not fit in with the lightweight ethos of the car... And besides, who wants to pilot their 3.3m-euro (excluding VAT) ‘street-legal racing prototype’ in the rain? An extremely strong carbonfibre monocoque, coupled with robust rollover protection, ensures safety for the occupants inside should the pilot lose control, regardless of the weather. Elsewhere, the 1,500kg roadster carries over all its genes from the coupé. There’s that (perhaps even more) divisive styling and, at its heart, the same 6.5-litre, 740bhp V12 that flings the car from 0-60mph in just under three seconds. Whereas only three coupés were produced, Lamborghini plans to triple that number, stating that nine Veneno Roadsters are to be built.
