Koenigsegg One:1 - A 280mph carbonfibre 'mega-car'

Koenigsegg hasn’t nicknamed its new Agera-based One:1 a 'megacar' purely for marketing purposes. In aiming to outwit the finest from Ferrari et al, the Swedes have created the first production car to produce a megawatt – more identifiable as 1,341bhp…

That, claims the Swedish manufacturer, is enough to push the 1,360kg monster to a v-max of 280mph, some 10mph more than the record 270mph that the Hennessey Venom GT achieved last week at the Kennedy Space Centre.

At these speeds, aerodynamics are just as important as what’s beneath your engine cowl (it’s a 5.0-litre V8 with a 3D-printed, variable-geometry turbo, if you’re asking). Koenigsegg has taken inspiration from the latest Le Mans cars with their fancy active aerodynamics – one interesting application in the One:1 being carbonfibre that is intentionally weakened so it can be bent by hydraulic actuators to vary air flow.

Only six Koenigsegg One:1s will be produced after the developmental prototype’s debut in Geneva, and all are already spoken for.
