At January’s Los Angeles Auto Show, Jaguar unveiled its new S-TYPE range – a major revision of the hugely successful sporting saloon.
Spearheading the new range is the supercharged R model – the first R Performance derivative of the S-TYPE. With a 4.2-litre supercharged V8 developing 400bhp, this new flagship is the most powerful Jaguar saloon ever.
A 163bhp, supercharged MINI Cooper S will be on sale from June, at an on-the-road price of £14,500. The S uses the same 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder transverse engine as existing MINI models, but breaks the “magical” 100bhp per litre figure through the use of supercharger and intercooler technology. Complementing the uprated engine is a new six-speed gearbox.
A highlight of the Autosport International show last week was the launch of the Morgan Motor Company’s new GT(N) racer. A development of the Morgan Aero 8, the new race car is the first production competition model to have been conceived, built and homologated by the Morgan factory team.
Based on the concept car ‚Evoq’ that was presented at the Geneva Car Show in 1999, a new Cadillac roadster called XLR will be produced. The US-market launch will take place in spring 2003, short time later in Europe. Following Cadillacs new philiosphie of ‘Art & Science’, the XLR combines an unusual design with innovative technology.
Jackie Ickx, Nick Mason and Rubens Barrichello can boast having at least two things in common: firstly they all regularly drive the most beautiful and fastest sports cars in the world and secondly, once a year they all meet up with one hundred years of motoring history in the south of England. Because that is when Lord March invites everyone to the Festival of Speed. For just under 100,000 spectators, a unique experience; for the drivers, the nicest way to look back on the good old days...
