I’ve always wanted to go to the ‘Nordkapp’, writes Frank Strothe. I’ve been before, in the summer, but there was no challenge in it. So for years I’ve pondered a winter expedition; driving in the snow is more fun, especially in a classic car that relies on your driving skill to keep it on the road, rather than a host of electronic safety measures. In Finnmark – Norway’s northernmost county – mothers use run-of-the-mill hatchbacks to take their children to school in -40deg temperatures.

It was a metallic brown 1969 Lamborghini Miura P400S, the car you see here, and one which will be auctioned by the British house Coys at its 4 December, London sale.

If any car could personify the jet-setting lifestyle of the time, it was the Miura. Launched at the Geneva Motor Show in 1966, one of Bertone’s finest-ever designs (it was from the pen of Marcello Gandini) could stop traffic in the best streets of New York, London or Paris.
 

Daimler returns to the new car showroom this autumn with an all-new model, the Super Eight. New 4.2-S special edition models unveiled at the 2005 Geneva International Salon mark another advance for the Jaguar XK. Available as either coupe or convertible, with a choice of two V8 engines – one of them supercharged – the new 4.2-S can be ordered now. Buyers will own a car that is widely recognised as a modern classic, with looks, performance and poise true to Jaguar's sports car lineage.

‘Orcinus Orca’ is the Latin name for the Killer Whale. Its intentions are clearly apparent; a merciless monster. The new sports car company from Switzerland has the same aspirations as its aquatic namesake, uncompromising performance in its own environment.
