Description
The history of this revolutionary motorcar is well known and its impact socially, culturally and mechanically is well documented. The production version of the Mini was demonstrated to the press in April 1959 and by August several thousand cars had been produced ready for the first sales. The Mini was marketed under BMC's two main brand names, Austin and Morris, until 1969, when it became a marque in its own right. The Morris version was known to all as 'the Mini' or the 'Morris Mini-Minor'.
This 1960 example presents an exciting restoration opportunity for a Mini enthusiast or any classic car enthusiast. Our vendor has owned the car since 1980 and only used it for four years before dry storing it in South London, where it has remained since. We are advised by our vendor that the Mini rolls freely and does start, although it is likely to overheat, and has poor oil flow despite showing strong oil pressure. Our vendor advises us that all the electrics are working, and that the front wings, sills, rear quarter panels and boot floor/battery box are solid. The A-panels however are severely corroded and the driver's door post and inner support are rotted out, however a new drivers A-panel will be supplied with car. The leatherette seat covers are believed to be salvageable with some maintenance, however the seat foam has degraded, while the paint is in poor condition overall, as can be seen in the photos.
These aspects aside, a Mini is a fabulous car to restore, with a multitude of marque specialists all over the country, and this example provides the perfect starting point for any enthusiast or hobbyist. Consigned by Charlie McCreery
Interested parties should note that we would recommend that the car be trailered away from the auction.
