Description

THE definition of Grand Touring; the 1965 Mercedes-Benz 300SE Coupé was among the most refined and technically advanced road cars of its time. Built on the W112 platform and styled by Paul Bracq, it combined understated elegance with sophisticated engineering, including air suspension, four-wheel disc brakes, and Bosch mechanical fuel injection. Its 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder engine, producing around 170 hp, provided smooth and effortless performance, allowing a top speed of roughly 200 km/h, suitable for a luxury grand tourer of the mid-1960s.

This example has recently undergone a concours-quality restoration and presents beautifully throughout. The car is finished in its original delivery specification of silver grey over a red leather interior, a particularly attractive colour combination. The underside is just as clean as the body and interior, reflecting the high standard of the restoration.
Since completion, the correct wheels/hub caps and the proper Mercedes-Benz star emblem have been fitted, ensuring the car now appears exactly as when it was delivered in.

The 300 SE Coupe also has an interesting early history as its first owner, Peter Bohnstedt-Petersen, was the owner and CEO of a Mercedes-Benz dealership group in Denmark with 30 branches, underscoring its pedigree and careful stewardship from new. A magazine cover and 8-page feature on this specific 300SE Coupe from publication ‘Motor Classic’ follows the car.

A further single owner followed from the late 1960s to the late 1980s, followed by a long lay up in a garage.
With its recent meticulous restoration, advanced engineering and appealing provenance, this 1965 Mercedes-Benz 300SE Coupé is an outstanding example of one of the marque’s most elegant and technically advanced grand touring cars and is now ready to be enjoyed by its next owner.
