 The launch of the Muira in 1966 paved the way for the supercar as we know it today, and Marcello Gandini’s penmanship appears almost discreet in comparison to the Muira’s successors, the Countach and Diablo. After seventeen years of outrageousness the Countach was finally retired and Gandini’s Diablo, although slightly toned down, was launched to the world in Monaco in 1990.  The new car was the fastest, most advanced and most expensive Lamborghini ever built. The two-door, rear wheel drive, mid-engined coupé was powered by a 5.7 litre, V12 and about 490 horses dug their hooves into the tarmac resulting in a 0-60 time of 4.5 seconds and a top speed of 202 mph. The first Lamborghini since the Muira to be labelled a “Super Veloce”, the Diablo SV was introduced at the Geneva Auto Show in 1995 and among the more significant changes was an increase in power to 517bhp and better brake cooling. Other SV changes included an adjustable rear spoiler, different lighting, a ducted engine lid, and larger diameter front brakes. According to online sources, only some 33 right-hand drive cars were destined for the UK, and N666 LAM was first registered on the 14th June 1996. It is believed by the vendor that the car was the Alpine Radio Press and Show car, and we are currently trying to confirm this from Alpine themselves. Brochures of the period certainly had a yellow Diablo SV on the cover.Our vendor, an avid collector of Lamborghini, Ferrari and other exotica, purchased N666 LAM in 2014. Although the car was in good order, it had been in long-term storage since 2007 and he retained the services of The Ferrari Centre, Kent to carefully go through the car and service it, with the bill for this attention amounting to £12,300, less than 1,500 kilometres ago. The odometer reading of 33,473 km (all Lamborghinis of this period regardless if UK-supplied were fitted with odometers in kilometres) is warranted by the MoT records. The car is presented to auction freshly painted and sporting new SV decals and is accompanied by its original service book, both keys, and a history file containing bills and invoices, and previous MoTs for those periods when it was not in long-term storage. The car flew through its most recent MoT which expires in September 2019.Few cars command as much road presence as the Diablo and with its low worldwide production numbers, and fewer still UK-supplied examples, this SV hits all the right notes.
