Editor’s Choice: Bizzarrini 5300 Strada

Throughout the whole history of the automobile, few cars have had more dramatic impact, more macho appeal than the hugely powerful, beautifully sculpted Bizzarrini.

We owe our thanks for this fantastic sports machine to Giotto Bizzarrini. Born in 1926 in the province of Livorno, Italy, Bizzarrini was a gifted all-rounder – some would say even a genius. He worked for Alfa, for Iso, for Lamborghini and for Ferrari. His portfolio includes perhaps the most famous (and valuable) Ferrari sports car ever: the 250 GTO.

For many, the Bizzarrini was an original blueprint of an Italian super sports car – but not so for Giotto Bizzarrini himself. For him, the 5300 GT Strada was simply a logical development of the Ferrari, propelled by a V8 engine claiming 370HP.

The example offered for sale here, from the Classic Driver Marketplace, is Bizzarrini 5300 GT Strada chassis number IA30247, in the rare and beautiful colour combination of silver with a black leather interior. It was acquired several years ago by Giuseppe Prevosti to join his growing collection and, after the car was involved in an accident, it was imported to Italy for what we’re told was a complete, ‘no-expense-spared’ restoration by marque specialist Salvatore Diomante.
