The world’s most valuable driving tour kicks off our Monterey coverage

Finally we are blessed once again with the sights and sounds off the greatest automobiles in the world driving California’s finest roads. Classic Driver was roadside to capture the action.

A first chance to see some of the fantastic cars that will be on display this weekend as the Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance begins in Pebble Beach and traces the legendary 17-Mile Drive, Highway One to Big Sur, and then returns to Pebble Beach to cross the Rolex finish gantry. A useful fact to know is that any car that successfully completes the tour will get the thumbs up if it later ties in class competition at the Concours on Sunday. Seems like as good an excuse as any to give your pride and joy a drive.

We couldn’t help but fall in love with the three seat, 1966 Ferrari 365P Berlinetta Speciale, but who would you choose as your two wing commanders?

You could hear it long before you saw it, but the Sunoco Porsche 917/30 is always a welcome sight. Can you imagine doing 240mph in this car back in 1973!

Countach is very much the word on peoples lips this weekend and these two gems are fine examples of why the Lamborghini model is so well regarded. In true Cannonball Run style they just look right at home on the Pacific Coast Highway too!
