With Jubilee fever set to take hold this summer, there seems no better time for the inaugural Windsor Castle Concours of Elegance.

Her Majesty has given permission for 60 of the world’s finest motor cars – with a further 60 arriving on the final day’s ‘Jubilee Tour’ – to commandeer the grounds of her Berkshire dwelling from 7-9 September.

The gathering will take place inside the Castle’s Quadrangle, with 60 of the most significant examples of motoring history assembling on the courtyard lawn. Many have been brought from overseas especially for the event, and some particularly notable examples include the 1957 Ferrari 250 GT Zagato, the 4¼-litre Embiricos Bentley, and Stirling Moss’s headrested Aston DB3S. The 57 other confirmed attendees are similarly prestigious.

On the final day of the event, a procession of 60 cars – one ‘gem’ from each year of The Queen’s reign – will leave a yet-to-be-decided London location and arrive at the Castle, lining up along the spectacular Long Walk driveway. During this ‘Jubilee Tour’, modern machinery such as a Lamborghini Aventador and a McLaren F1 will fall in behind such classics as a Bentley R-Type Continental and a Ferrari 275 GTB/4; meanwhile, their drivers and passengers have been instructed to wear outfits in keeping with their steed’s vintage.

The opening day of the Concours (Friday 6 September) is an invitation-only ‘owners day’, but tickets for the Saturday and Sunday are available to the public starting at £25, with 5,000 available for each day. The organisers are keen to stress that this event is advance ticket only, so interested parties should consult the information box below.

With the seventh Salon Privé taking place at Syon Park on 5-7 September, enthusiasts have – perhaps by coincidence – been given the chance to enjoy a full five days of world-class automotive brilliance without even leaving the South of England.
