The Mercedes-AMG Project One is a Formula 1 car on the road

Mercedes-AMG is celebrating its 50th birthday at the IAA in Frankfurt with the unveiling of a study of the highly anticipated Project One. The hypercar is set to bring Formula 1 technology on the road — all from a small six-cylinder turbo and four electric motors with over 1,000 PS...

The days of scoring points in supercar comparisons based on engine capacity or numbers of cylinders are over. The Mercedes-AMG Project One is immune to such juvenile activity thanks to a Formula 1 outlook on design and engineering, resulting in a small but mighty powertrain. The 1.6-litre V6 hybrid utilises direct injection and assisted single-turbo charging, just like an F1 car, and winds up all the way to 11,000 rpm, with an expected power output of more than 1,000 PS and a top speed beyond 350 km/h. Starting in 2019, 275 examples of the Project One will be built at a price of around 2.275 million euros. As anniversary celebrations go, this is pretty spectacular, with more than enough power to blow out on the candles on the cake…
