McLaren’s 675LT Spider shoots for the sky

At £285,450, the new McLaren 675LT Spider is close to £26,000 more than the closed-roof version on which it's based. But with all the savage performance of the hardtop and miles and miles of headroom, it could well be worth it…

Limitless

The headline figures are astonishing, more so considering that the loss of the roof has resulted in a 40kg weight penalty. But it’s thanks to the adaptability of the carbonfibre ‘MonoCell’ chassis (and the 666bhp twin-turbocharged V8) that the 675LT’s 2.9sec 0-60mph time has been retained. We admit, the slightly fussy styling might not be to everybody’s tastes, and the F1 GT-style wheels coupled with the lurid shade of ‘Solis’ gold on this car are bold to say the least. However, if we could secure one of the 500 675LT Spiders destined for lucky customers next summer, we’d spec it in a tasteful colour combination and head straight for the South of France, no doubt grinning all the way. See you in St. Tropez...
