Along a quiet, sleepy village in East Hampshire, you’ll find everything you’d typically see from an English market town – plenty of speedbumps, families enjoying the village greens, and the local supermarket bursting at the seams without a parking space in sight. What makes Petersfield different from any other village, however, is the sound of some of the world’s rarest racing machines and hypercars being maintained and sold, ranging from Le Mans winning McLaren F1s, through to road-converted Porsche 935s. Petersfield is home to Lanzante, a stealthy dealership-come-madhouse that, over the years, has given even the most track-focused McLarens a chance to experience Britain’s public roads.
After converting a number of P1 GTRs to adhere to UK road regulations, Lanzante and McLaren Special Operations decided to convert five production P1 GTRs plus one prototype to ‘LM’ specification. This process, essentially the same as what McLaren did to the F1 when it made the F1 LM, resulted in the fastest, most valuable version of the groundbreaking hypercar.
Combined with electric motor power from the hybrid unit and higher boost, the P1 LM’s output rose to a staggering 986 horsepower, while weight was reduced by 60 kilos thanks to an exposed carbon fibre roof, lightweight seats, the removal of the jacking system, as and the replacement of many parts with lightweight titanium. Climb inside this race-ready road car and you'll find a neat touch: the Alcantara-covered steering wheel has been designed to pay homage to the one in Lewis Hamilton’s Championship-winning 2008 McLaren MP4/23!
One of just five production examples of “The last of any variant of the P1,” this incredibly rare P1 LM was manufactured at McLaren and converted by Lanzante for March 2017. Despite its £3,900,000 price tag, incredibly the first lucky owner never got behind the wheel, and the car shows under 250 miles on the odometer from new. The car comes complete with many items perfect for a home office or garage, a chest of tools including torque wrench with wheel socket and diagnostic tablet, colour-coded driver and co-driver P1 LM comms headsets, a 1/8 scale model and framed rendering of the car, and perhaps most impressively, a bespoke Rolex P1 LM watch with alternative style straps in a fitted carbon fibre display cylinder!
