Are prices for the last manual sports cars about to peak?

From the BMW 1M to the Porsche Carrera GT, Classic Driver ranks ten of the last true factory manuals — and asks the question every collector's wondering: has the manual premium already peaked, or is there still road left to run?

For years, the manual gearbox was the enthusiast's quiet indulgence - the box you ticked because you cared more about feel than lap times. Then something shifted. The generation raised on F40 and Carrera GT posters grew up, got chequebooks, and decided they wanted engagement over statistics. Meanwhile, the manufacturers simply stopped offering the choice, Ferrari went paddles-only, Lamborghini followed, McLaren never looked back after the F1. Limited supply, genuine desirability, and a great story: collectors know exactly what that combination usually means for prices.

In our latest Market Insights episode, we count down ten of the last true factory manuals worth chasing, from the cult-status BMW 1 Series M Coupé right through to the Porsche Carrera GT, the car we've called the last true analog hypercar. Along the way: the Ferrari 599 GTB with just thirty gated examples built, the Gallardo nobody wanted until suddenly everybody did, and the Viper that never once left the factory with an automatic.

The real question isn't whether these cars are collectible. It's whether the smart money has already been spent, or whether there's still room to run.
