Bonhams: Early star cars consigned for Quail Lodge

The first highlights of this year's Quail Lodge sale, taking place on 16 and 17 August as part of the 2012 Monterey Week, have been announced by Bonhams. One particular eye-catcher is the Ferrari 365 GTB/4 NART Spyder with Le Mans history.

A former Geneva Motor Show car, the 1972/75 365 GTB/4 Daytona Competizione Spyder, with alloy coachwork by Michelotti, is one of just five Chinetti NART conversions. An official entry in the 1975 Le Mans 24 Hours and – as a historic car – a participant in the Monterey Historics and the Ferrari/Maserati Historic Challenge, the car was raced more recently in the Le Mans Classic by Vanina Ickx, daughter of the legendary Jacky Ickx. Unusually, there’s the chance to actually see and hear this very special car in action in the video above.

In addition to the Ferrari, other entries in the auction (to be held at a new, larger venue on the existing Quail Lodge grounds in sunny Carmel Valley) include a GTC Gulf Team Davidoff 1997 McLaren F1 GTR and a 1966 Ford GT40 with an extensive racing history. Plus, of course, much more besides.
