Description

1953 Alfa Romeo 1900C Series 1 Tipo 2 Sprint, Carrozzaria Touring Coupe - 1975cc
Rosso with Tan Hide. Borrani wire wheels. Dunlop Racing tyres. Marchal Lighting.

1 of only 650 Aluminium bodied Series 1 examples produced.

A total - professional restoration was carried out in 2015 / 2016 by marque experts, who currently maintain and support the car at ADP-Classic Racing in the UK. Photographic record of the restoration is available.

This particular example, with its subtle upgrades still retains all the essence and style of a 1900C but has been reported as “the best driving 1900 in the world” the perfect luxury Grand Tourismo or Road Rallying vehicle.

This 1953 Sprint benefits from the far superior, factory fitted, larger 306mm type aluminium drum brakes. These have been accompanied by modern “fast road” specification linings and are completed by the hidden twin circuit brake servo, the boosting the braking performance to an extremely good level.

The suspension has bespoke made road springs and adjustable telescopic dampers. This car also benefits from a bespoke ADP-Classic Racing Anti Roll Bar.

The steering box has been upgraded and performs fantastically, an original Marles item comes with the vehicle.

The Period Correct Marchal headlamps, fog lamps and spot lamps really set off the look of this 1900 C with bespoke mountings made so the car can be run in two different guises, with or without the original bumpers. Subtle rear over-rider style bumpers commissioned by the current owner really give this 1900 C a clean and unique look that can be reverted to original in minutes.

The 1900 has had a complete “ADP-Classic Racing – Rally Preparation” carried out with no expense spared. The vehicle has been inspected post the Targa Florio and will be serviced ready for the rigors of the Mille Miglia or any other prestigious event that is desired.

This 1900C comes with an impressive spares and originality package including an original type AR1308 engine, supplied on a stand, and vehicle tool kit with an extremely rare jack. Set of original wheels and tyres and an emergency parts supply box.

The current engine fitted is a later 1975cc unit that was recently rebuilt by Ed Pink Racing Engines. This engine has been built for Regularity Rally performance and reliability, this engine benefits from the later bucket type valve train rather than the unreliable valve stem - threaded adjuster type, as per the original AR1308. The car runs via a pair of rare Solex 40 PII carburettors, rare Alfa Romeo airbox and original manifolds. The exhaust system is bespoke fabricated stainless steel.

To make an even more engaging driving machine this vehicle was fitted with a period correct floor change Nardi 5 speed gearbox in its early life.
As a result of testing, the car is now wearing Dunlop sports race tires for maximum comfort and handling.

Discreetly housed in the glovebox is a state-of-the-art Rally Timer that is excepted on all international rallies and regularities, it has the capability to data log, display and warn the driver of the engine’s status from hidden sensors via a secondary removeable driver display. There are super accurate wheel speed sensors fitted, two in fact in case one fails.
Modern 12v and USB outlets are installed to keep all your devices charged on the stage. There is a small bracket for a portable Bang and Olufsen Beolit music media system.

Lastly to top off the enjoyment and comfort the original seats have been retrimmed in leather in original style but with added support, and a removeable transmission tunnel sleeve in matching trim to house map books, drinks holders etc...
The car was cared for and uprated by award winning California Architect David C. Martin.

This very special 1900C Sprint also had an entry confirmed in both the 2020 and 2021 Mille Miglia but the pandemic unfortunately had made travel difficult.
Eligible for various major historic rally events including the Mille Miglia which this car has competed in twice, 2015/ 2016. Built to the highest road / rally specification.

Please see the article in Petroliciuos where Ted Gushue reports on this very car on the 2016 Mille Miglia with the current custodian:

Since the easing of restrictions, the 1900 C has taken part in the prestigious St Moritz Speedweek, competing in the Bernina GT and also The Motorsport Rendezvous returning to ADP Classic Racing HQ to be re-prepared for the Targa Florio, the 1900 C performed flawlessly at all events.

There is a history file that includes all the known history and records back to the original owner in 1953.
The file also includes some niceties such as an Alfa Romeo 1900 Workshop Manual and Parts book copy, Shell Lubrication chart and some period Alfa Romeo and Touring advertisement clippings. as well as many other paperwork specific to the vehicle and its history.
