Description

Volkswagen Beetle Type 1 from 1949.

A real historic car, not the usual restoration.
The car was never fully restored, it shows all its 73 long years tattooed on it: adjustments, paintwork and any modifications to survive in the different places where it lived.

All the objects/tools/manuals were found in the two cases (as shown in photos) together with a wonderful story of a travel diary made with the car, called ‘JOHANN dalla Germania fino in Namibia’, written in German and translated into Italian.

This rare car was purely for the German market.
This Volkswagen Type 1 from 1949, which is very faithful to the original specifications, has some parts deliberately left original but not really of the era of the car.

The bodywork, with a beautiful paint. It has a wonderful and simple charm.
The 16" solid semi-gloss black rims with studded wheels from Russia are of high quality.

The indicators in the centre struts recall the pre-war roots of the car and the distinct lack of finishing and chrome recall the peculiar purpose of the VW as the people’s car (standard model).

The charming simplicity continues in the interior, however the impeccable quality of the restoration shines through in the fabric seat upholstery like the original ones, expertly adapted, and in the high-quality details both front and rear. It still has the rubber mats of the time from the 1940s/1950s!

A compartment of the dashboard contains a Zenith clock (A. Cairelli factory in Rome, which was produced for the Air Force and around 1941 was used on the control panels of the Italian fighter and bomber aircraft of the Royal Air Force).

Engine:
Correct horizontally opposed-four 1131 cc. The engine was carefully refurbished from A to Z in all its parts and carefully detailed with original parts of the time. The engine sheets were beautifully restored and painted in a semi-gloss black as required by the original model. It is exceptionally clean and neat, and it shows almost no sign of use since the restoration (from which it has travelled about 300/400 km).

In addition, it is fitted with the mechanics of the Kübelwagen (German Jeep produced in 50,435 units) or the so-called ‘portal axles’ (invented by the engineer Ferdinand Porsche who applied the cascade of gears on the independent axles on the second series -Typ82 and Typ86 4x4- of 1939) that allow its height from the ground of 28 cm, which – even today – many cars dream of! Another rarity of the time...

It can be viewed in Cervinara, Italy. This Classic Car is for sale on Catawiki. To have more information or to place a bid click on the "BID NOW" button.
