History:
This very rare Type 1 Zwitter Beetle was delivered new to the USA in late 1952. It is a Deluxe export model in Pastel green with beige interior. The first owner is a Volkswagen dealership in Indianapolis, Indiana. They keep the car from 1952 until 1974. It is still in original unrestored condition. The second owner Thomas Simons also of Indianapolis, Indiana owns the VW from 1974 until 1999. The car is still in original unrestored condition. The third owner Ishai Firma of Chatsworth, California owns this remarkable VW Beetle from 1999 until 2013. It is advertised for sale as an unrestored original VW beetle with 63,700 miles. The fourth owner Linda Wells of La Jolla, California buys the car in 2013 with the fond memories of having bought a Volkswagen Beetle new right after college and driving it for three months all over Europe. After enjoying it as an original survivor car she has it completely restored by a specialist shop West Coast Classic Restorers in Fullerton, California from 2019 until 2020. The receipts for this restoration are in the file on this remarkable example. Grand Prix Classics acquires this charming Zwitter Beetle in early 2026. Owner Mark Leonard who was raised in Germany as a child and whose first car was a 1953 VW Beetle attended to the last small details to complete this top-level restoration.
