Heavy H1-tter
Believe it or not, the origins of the Hummer date back an incredible 40 years to 1985, when the vehicle was used exclusively in military roles before its civilian debut in 1992. Without realising it, Hummer reignited the desire for outrageously large and highly capable SUVs, the same desire initially laid out by models like the Lamborghini LM002. While many saw vehicles like the H1 as a status symbol, it was also one of the most gifted off-roaders ever made, capable of wading through two and a half feet of water, effortlessly ploughing its way through the deepest snow and scaling loose sand dunes with complete ease. This model, which left the factory in 1995, is one of just 260 made that year, and is believed to be the only example finished in the metallic blue shade it still sports. Incredibly, this H1 remained with its original Canadian owner for over 27 years, and has since only changed hands twice, meaning its original purchaser clearly adored this loveable giant more than most ever could!
Unsung Homologation Hero
What we have for your viewing pleasure here is a lesser-seen rally-inspired special edition from everyone’s favourite Italian car maker, Alfa Romeo. It’s known as the GTV Turbodelta, which was developed to satisfy the homologation requirements for Group 4 competition, with Autodelta producing just 400 examples using the turbocharged 2.0-litre engine. Arguably one of the more minimalistic of motorsport-specific road cars, the Turbodelta has amassed a true cult following around the world, making them incredibly rare to find on the market, with this example sporting a fantastic colour combination and the all-important multi-coloured livery along the side panels.
Space Oddity
Here at Classic Driver, we get a little giddy when we see a motoring oddity buried among the many classics up for grabs, and few are quite as unusual as this, the Zagato Stelvio AZ1. Developed by Autech Japan, a Nissan subsidiary specialising in the manufacture and sale of special vehicles, and the prestigious Carrozzeria Zagato, the AZ1 was released in 1989 as a true limited-edition machine. The project was led by none other than Mr Skyline himself, Shinichiro Sakurai, who had spent decades developing one of Nissan’s most loved sports cars through its many generations, taking the F31 generation Nissan Leopard as the base car. The chassis and engine was then sent to Zagato, who skillfully formed the body shell from hammered aluminium alloy, shaping the distinctive carbon fibre bonnet with integrated wing mirrors, as well as crafting the interior with walnut and full leather upholstery, creating this truly spectacular machine. It is believed a mere 104 examples exist, making this stunning example a true piece of motoring gold!
