Ferrari has unveiled its latest masterpiece from the Special Projects programme: the Ferrari SC40, a bespoke, one-off berlinetta designed by the Ferrari Styling Centre under the direction of Flavio Manzoni. Based on the 296 GTB, the SC40 embodies Ferrari’s philosophy of ultimate personalisation — a car crafted entirely around the vision of a single client.
Paying homage to the legendary F40 unveiled in 1987, the SC40 combines that icon’s angular aggression with contemporary sculptural fluidity. Its name, proportions, and aerodynamic form echo the F40’s spirit without direct imitation, resulting in a strikingly modern yet instantly recognisable silhouette.
The SC40’s design language is rooted in industrial precision, with bold geometries and muscular, squared volumes. Its long, low nose contrasts with a short rear overhang and a fixed high rear wing, seamlessly merging with the body through a black separation line. The rear fascia features open mesh elements exposing mechanical details, while smoked Lexan louvres reveal the V6 hybrid engine and enhance airflow. A central additively manufactured exhaust with titanium and carbon-fibre tips completes the powerful aesthetic, flanked by taillights reminiscent of the 296 GTB. From the side, the SC40’s NACA-style air intakes and carbon-fibre accents define its aerodynamic rhythm, with vertical lines that give the car’s surfaces a sense of structure and motion. At the front, distinctive outer-mounted headlights and rectangular brake intakes underscore the car’s assertive character.
Inside, Ferrari revives the spirit of the F40 through the use of carbon-Kevlar, reimagined for modern performance. The material adorns the footwells, dashboard, engine bay, and luggage compartment. The cabin blends Charcoal Alcantara with red Jacquard fabric, featuring embroidered Prancing Horses and woven SC40 logos. Finished in SC40 White, a new hue designed to highlight its sculpted form, the car also features custom wheels with brushed metal and black spokes. While the space-age creation is a one-off, from October 18th, a styling buck of the SC40 will be showcased at the Ferrari Museum in Maranello, celebrating a new chapter in Ferrari’s pursuit of automotive artistry.
